Artch Workshops 2026

Overview

Art Volt's 2026 collaboration with Artch offers a series of in-person and online professional training workshops for emerging Quebec contemporary artists. Artch's mission is to identify, educate, and disseminate the work of emerging Quebec contemporary artists.

• Writing the Artist's Statement and Biography (English) – Saturday, June 6th, 12:30pm–3:30pm, online with naakita f.k.
• Writing the Artist's Statement and Biography (French) – Friday, June 5th, 9:30am–12:30pm, in person with Eric Dufresne-Arbique
• Meeting with a Gallerist (French) – Wednesday, June 10th, 5:00pm–6:30pm, in person with Hugues Charbonneau
• Accounting for Artists (French) – Friday, June 12th, 1:30pm–4:30pm, in person with Julie Picard
• Finding the Means for One's Ambitions: The Role of RAAV in the Visual Arts Ecosystem (French) – Friday, June 19th, 9:30am–12:30pm, in person with Natalie Dussault and Lana Greben

Eligibility

Workshops are available to students registered for graduation and recent alumni who have graduated from Concordia University's Faculty of Fine Arts within the last three years.

How to Register

Places are limited and allocated on a first come, first serve basis. Email the following details to [email protected]: name, year of graduation, program and department (e.g., BFA, Art History), which workshop(s) you would like to attend, and proof of graduation (diploma or screen capture of graduation approval status from Student Hub).

Workshop Descriptions

• Writing the Artist's Statement and Biography: Explore tools and techniques to write about your practice and artworks. Craft an artist statement and artist bio with examples, writing exercises, and time to draft. After the session, share your writing with the workshop leader for edits and suggestions.
• Meeting with a Gallerist: Connect with Hugues Charbonneau of Galerie Hugues Charbonneau, a contemporary art gallery in Montreal presenting innovative exhibitions and supporting artists in museum contexts, international fairs, and major biennales.
• Accounting for Artists: Introductory accounting training addressing the realities of self-employed artists becoming professionals. Learn practical accounting basics for taxes, filing, bookkeeping, and financial management. Course notes provided.
• Finding the Means for One's Ambitions: Understanding your rights, structuring your practice, ensuring fair compensation, and mastering contractual basics. Includes presentation on RAAV services and tools, and exploration of RAAV-CARFAC fee schedules and sales contracts using real-life cases.
