Aspen Public Art, in partnership with Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES), invites professional creative teams—including artists, architects, designers, builders, and related disciplines—to propose a human-scale birdhouse inspired by Aspen's cultural vibrancy, natural history, and avian community. The selected project will become a temporary public art and educational experience near the ACES Hallam Lake property, creating a space for visitors to gather, listen, learn, and connect with the natural environment.

  • September 30, 2026: Application deadline
  • October 16, 2026: Finalists notified
  • November 30–December 4, 2026: Community voting on finalist proposals
  • December 2026: Finalist proposals exhibited at Red Brick Center for the Arts
  • May 2027: Winning project constructed
  • Through October 2027: Temporary public art installation

Three finalist teams will develop conceptual proposals for exhibition at the Red Brick Center for the Arts in December 2026. Each finalist team will receive a $1,000 stipend to develop its concept. The selected team will receive a $50,000 project budget for design, fabrication, and installation of the structure.

The birdhouse structure will be up to 120 square feet and installed through October 2027. Three finalist teams will have their proposals exhibited, and community voting will determine the winning proposal.

There is no fee to apply.
