La Porte Peinte: Open Call for May 2027

Overview

La Porte Peinte is an international arts centre located in Noyers sur Serein, a medieval village in Burgundy, France. Based in a rambling medieval half-timbered building overlooking the village square, it offers artists, makers, musicians and writers in residence the opportunity to engage in creative exploration and exchange. The centre features five comfortable bedrooms supplemented by four bedrooms in a nearby annex, eight private studio spaces, and workshop and event spaces for classes and performances.

• Length: 2 weeks to 6 months

Eligibility

Open to artists, performers, writers, musicians, filmmakers, photographers, and creative thinkers of any career stage based anywhere in the world. Collaborative groups and partnerships welcome. Spouses/partners and children allowed for full stay during family residencies.

Costs

• Residency fee: €1600, €1900, €2000, or €2200 per person per month depending on bedroom choice
• Fee includes all utilities, accommodation, studio space, communal kitchen and laundry access, wireless internet, and printer

Funding Opportunities

While most residencies are artist-funded, La Porte Peinte offers a limited number of fully and partially funded residencies. Occasional themed and partnership residencies are available. Family residencies offered during specific periods. La Porte Peinte USA focuses on widening opportunities for artists affected by war, natural disasters, economic hardship, or discrimination, with emphasis on film, photography, written reportage, sustainable design, creative work by women, emerging artists, and African, Haitian, and Latin American practitioners.

Additional Opportunities

Residents may give artist talks or presentations. Mentored residencies available for artists, writers and creators of any age. Non-working companions may be considered with supplementary fees; full-time childcare can be arranged for additional cost.
