About
Overview
Burren College of Art offers immersive short courses teaching creative process to non-artists and professionals across disciplines. Based on the studio research methods of the MFA/PhD programme, these courses transfer creative process knowledge to educators, business leaders, academics, engineers, lawyers, biochemists, executives, community organizers, and individual professionals seeking to develop creative aspects of their academic, personal, organizational, or business life.
What is Creative Difference
The college has developed 'Creative Difference' as an alternative to 'creativity and innovation.' It is developed through structured learning experiences recognizing different modes of intelligence, identifying personal difference from others, transforming mental/emotional/behavioural habits into creative strategies, taking ownership of iterative creative processes, and learning how collaboration works better than competition.
Learning Environment & Format
Courses are immersive experiences in the Burren landscape and purpose-built studios of Burren College of Art, free from urban distraction. They normally take place over several days with at least one overnight stay. Activities include both individual and group work with sharing of experience in exploration and experiment.
Instructors
Martin Hawkes, a founding trustee with background in public service, commercial banking, and social entrepreneurship, and Prof. Timothy Emlyn Jones, educated at Hornsey College of Art, the Royal College of Art in London, the Cité Internationale des Arts Paris, and Cardiff Metropolitan University, and a member of Joseph Beuys's Free International University.
