Overview
Forest Encounters is seeking representations of different encounters with the forest from both human and non-human perspectives. The project explores diverse imaginaries, concepts, and practices around learning with the forest, human-forest encounters, coexistence, and future forests. Six selected works will be published and distributed worldwide in paperback, e-book, and audio podcast format.
What to Submit
- Essay: 500 to 700 words
- Flash fiction: less than 500 words
- Short story: 500 to 700 words
- Poetry: 1 to 3 poems, less than 700 words total
Language & Eligibility
Submissions in English are mandatory. Submissions in the original language are optional but welcomed. Open to both individuals and collectives.
Key Dates
- Submission opens: April 20, 2024
- Submission deadline: June 30, 2024 (or when 100 submissions received, whichever is first)
- Selection announced: no later than October 2024
- Publication: 2025
Submission & Fees
Submit work via online Google Form. Submission is free. Prepare your application offline before submission as form contents cannot be saved online before submission.
Awards
Six selected works receive a EUR 150 honorarium each, publication in Forest Encounters paperback and e-book, and recording as a podcast distributed worldwide through digital channels.
Publication & Code of Conduct
All submissions will be published on the Forest Encounters website if applicants give permission during the application process. The project does not allow demeaning words that could undermine another person's self-esteem or imply lesser human worth. All forms of discrimination, racism, antisemitism, and Islamophobia are prohibited.
