OPEN CALL for residencies in Krems 2026

Overview

AIR offers temporary living and working opportunities in five-week sessions with studio accommodation and a grant to international artists. Each year, 8 sessions are offered through an open call. The program aims to enable foreign artists to work in Lower Austria and engage with local cultural institutions, the Kunstmeile Krems, the city of Krems, the Wachau World Heritage Site, and Vienna.

Eligibility

• Artists in architecture, visual arts, digital arts, literature, and music
• Must have completed university degree in a relevant discipline or demonstrate equivalent artistic qualification through career
• Regular artistic activity required in the relevant field
• Austrian artists and artists residing in Austria are not eligible
• Artist collectives welcome to apply

Residency Details

• Duration: 5 weeks
• Studio apartments: five furnished studios ranging from 45 m² to 120 m²
• Each studio equipped with kitchen, bathroom, internet, Wi-Fi, dishwasher, washing machine, electric stove
• Large shared work and common room (approx. 120 m²) with tools, computer, internet, printer, photocopier, fax, scanner
• Photo/video camera, projector, sound system available for rent
• 80% attendance requirement

Financial Support

• Scholarship grant: €1,950 per artist
• Artist is responsible for: travel, transfer, materials, and meals

• Call period: February 10 – April 30, 2025
• Application deadline: April 30, 2025, 11:59 p.m.
• Applications accepted only via online application tool; email applications not accepted
• Incomplete applications will not be considered
• Submitted materials will not be returned

Terms and Conditions

• 80% attendance requirement
• Partners, children, family members, and friends cannot be accommodated during stay
• Pets not permitted (except assistance dogs)
• Arrival and departure dates will be communicated in advance and must be adhered to
