About
Overview
Founded in 1998, HIAP – Helsinki International Artist Programme – is the largest international residency centre in the Nordic and Baltic region. This three-month residency program offers $15,000 in funding, time, and space for open-ended research and experimentation without the requirement to produce finalised work. The residency venues are located on Suomenlinna island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site a 15-minute ferry ride from Helsinki centre, and in the Cable Factory cultural complex in Helsinki.

Eligibility
- Australian citizen or Australian Permanent Resident
- Practicing artist or arts worker
- Individuals only—groups and organisations cannot apply
- Cannot apply if you have submitted another application to the same round, have an overdue grant report, or owe money to Creative Australia

Assessment criteria
- Quality: artistic practice, vision and rationale for the residency, motivation and approach to learning and collaboration
- Viability: feasibility and relevance of the proposed activity, realistic and achievable planning within the residency period
- Impact: how the residency will develop your artistic practice and strengthen professional networks and international engagement

Residency experience
The HIAP team supports residents with research and practical matters. Residents have access to weekly community meetings, facilities and equipment, and can participate in the HIAP Open Studios event, typically held towards the end of each residency season, to present work-in-progress to arts professionals and the public.
