About
Overview
At a moment when destruction advances with growing voracity across different parts of the world, Kaaysá's May 2026 residency proposes an opposing gesture: construction. Artists from different disciplines are invited to imagine, through art, other ways of relating, coexisting, and envisioning the future. Over the course of one month, resident artists will take part in a unique experience alongside a caiçara fisherman from the Boiçucanga community, in a process of exchange in which local knowledge takes center stage. A boat inspired by Phoenician vessels will be collectively built in cedar and will be fully capable of navigating. Once completed, it will be ceremonially launched in the waters of Boiçucanga and will then remain at Kaaysá as a sculptural work, bringing together passage, memory, and presence.
Who can apply
Visual artists, photographers, writers, painters, sculptors, dancers, performers, musicians, researchers, and creators from all fields are invited to apply.
Residency details
- Duration: one month (May 1–31, 2026)
- Accommodation: single spacious rooms with bathroom and balcony, or double rooms available; linen and towels provided
- Facilities: laundry, equipped kitchen, multidisciplinary art library, ~30 rooms for groups, large dance studio, video art studio, shared kitchen, laundry, swimming pool, communal areas, woodworking workshop, pottery wheel, ceramic kiln, sound recording studio

- Studios: large studio for visual arts with big tables and walls, new dance studio, video art studio, access to all production spaces, collective atelier, woodworking workshop, pottery wheel, ceramic kiln, sound recording studio
Expectations
Artists are not required to produce final outputs, but must present a portfolio and participate in a workshop with local students (not obligatory). All artists are invited to participate in building the boat with a fisherman from the local community.
Fees
Collaboration fee of 1,800 Euro for one month includes accommodation, mediation, curator support, and production assistance. Not included: transport, food, and insurance.
