The programs reflect the organization’s ongoing commitment to artistic production, professional development, and community-building through mentorship. Each year, NXTHVN selects up to seven artists and two curators to participate in its paid, ten-month Fellowship. Chosen from an international pool of applicants, Fellows receive studio or office space, a stipend, and subsidized housing, and relocate to New Haven (Connecticut, United States) for the duration of the program. The Fellowship centers on a mentorship-driven curriculum that includes professional development sessions led by visiting artists, curators, scholars, and practitioners, supporting participants at a pivotal moment in their careers. A defining component of the program is its focus on intergenerational learning. Each Fellow is paired with a high school Apprentice, fostering one-on-one mutual exchange while expanding access to creative fields for the next local generation. The Fellowship concludes with an annual group exhibition presented at a prominent gallery space. Applications for the Fellowship are open until March 2, 2026. Applicants must be at least 21 years old by the start of the program, not enrolled in an academic program or other residency during the Fellowship year, and able to reside in New Haven for its full duration. No formal art degree or training is required. While applicants may be based in the U.S. or internationally, NXTHVN does not currently cover travel or relocation expenses. The High School Apprenticeship Program is open to students aged 15 and older in the greater New Haven area, with a weekly commitment of 5 to 10 hours after school. Applicants submit a statement of interest, creative samples, and references, and participate in group and individual interviews. NXTHVN welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and maintains a strict non-discrimination policy.
