About the Residency

The Artist-in-Residence Programme at MuseumsQuartier Vienna is supported by ERSTE Foundation in collaboration with tranzit.org, the Igor Zabel Association, and Kontakt Collection/WHW Akademija. The programme supports contemporary artists and curators from Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe, including a special two-month grant for participants from Ukraine.

What's Included

  • €1,300 monthly stipend
  • €300 travel grant (€500 for participants from outside the EU)
  • Studio/living space at MuseumsQuartier
  • Opportunities for meetings and exchange during the residency
  • Note: pets are not permitted

Who Can Apply

Artists and curators working in critical contemporary visual art from Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Ukraine. Applicants who have recently received this residency or participated in other ERSTE Foundation educational programs will not be given priority.

Residency Periods by Country

  • Ukraine: January to February 2027
  • Romania: March to April 2027
  • Slovakia: March to April 2027
  • Czechia: May to June 2027
  • Slovenia: May to June 2027
  • Hungary: July to August 2027
  • Croatia: September to October 2027

  • Portfolio (max. 10 MB, PDF)
  • Letter of intent explaining why you apply, what you expect, and what you would like to focus on (max. 5,000 characters)
  • Brief curriculum vitae (max. 1 page)
