Statewide Service Organizations

Overview

This grant category supports organizations that provide leadership and services to a particular sector of the arts industry. Funded services include newsletters, conferences, workshops, consultations, and resource publications. Statewide Service Organizations (SSOs) must serve the entire state or a multi-state region inclusive of North Carolina.

Key Dates

• Applications open: January 5, 2026
• Applications due: March 2, 2026
• Funded activities period: July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027

Grant Amount

• Range: $5,000 to $30,000
• Requires dollar-for-dollar match from the organization
• Amount based on application rating, operating budget size, and funding history

Who May Apply

• Must be nonprofit with tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3)
• Must have been producing quality arts programs for at least two years
• Must have prior-year organizational cash operating expenses of at least $20,000
• Tribal organizations must represent North Carolina or federally-recognized tribes
• First-time applicants should consult with staff to determine eligibility

What Funds Support

Grant funds support administrative and program expenses directly related to proposed programs and services, including newsletters, listserv and website management, conferences, workshops, classes, consultations, research, resource publications, presentations, and promotional materials.

Funding Decisions

Applications are evaluated on high-quality programs demonstrating innovation and improvement, services meeting clearly defined statewide or regional needs with measurable community benefits, and strong organizational management ensuring stability and fiscal responsibility.
