Overview
Artica Svalbard is a leading not-for-profit residency foundation based in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, providing a unique environment for artistic research and creative expression. The organization facilitates artistic and cultural activities that inspire change and contribute to global conversations about Arctic issues.
Why Svalbard?
Svalbard is a place where pressing questions—climate change, geopolitics, migration, and minority perspectives—are being explored. The residency encourages artists to challenge existing perceptions of the Arctic while engaging in new knowledge and ways of thinking.
Who Can Apply?
- Norwegian and Norway-based visual artists with interest in polar regions and/or global perspectives, conversations, and issues from the High North
- Artist duos welcome; please state in application if you need one or two apartments
- Family may join; please note specific requirements in application
Residency Duration & Support
Minimum stay of at least six consecutive weeks with dates determined according to your schedule and Artica's accommodation schedule. Selected residents receive funding for travel, accommodation, and living expenses stipend, plus workspace and access to Artica Svalbard's resources.
Community Engagement
Residents are encouraged to share their work through an artist talk, presentation, debate, lecture, or workshop, contributing to cultural exchange and dialogue with the local community in Longyearbyen.
