MOYA Kaneyama's Creative Residence offers a sanctuary where artists, thinkers, and creative minds can reset, reflect, and create. The program welcomes artists, designers, writers, musicians, dancers, philosophers, entrepreneurs, creative directors, illustrators, photographers, filmmakers, athletes, researchers, and anyone driven by curiosity and a passion for discovery.

Guests choose between two tatami suites, each featuring a futon room and studio. Communal spaces include a private library, kitchen, workshop room, outdoor garden, and an expansive cellar (Kura) designed to foster community and collaboration.

  • Application period: Feb. 1, 2026 (Sun.) – Sep. 30, 2026 (Wed.)
  • Program runs: Mid-May through early November each year
  • Minimum stay: 10 nights

MOYA Kaneyama, 325 Kaneyama, Kaneyama-town, Mogami, Yamagata 999-5402, Japan (Tohoku region).

Residents must be fluent in English and/or Japanese. The program is open to a wide range of creative professionals—artists, designers, writers, musicians, dancers, philosophers, and others. Working during the residency is permitted but not the primary focus.

  • Visa costs: Paid by artist
  • Insurance (medical and property damage): Paid by artist
  • Transportation to the residence: Paid by artist
