Overview
Los Vivos y Los Muertos is a juried exhibition featuring art that explores and honors the cultures, heritage, traditions, and rich history of Mexico and the southwest United States with concentration on work inspired by Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). The exhibition celebrates Hispanic & Latino culture and welcomes emerging and established artists ages 14 and above.

Eligibility
Open to nationwide artists ages 14 and above. Emerging artists are those who create art as a hobby or are still developing their skills with little or no public recognition, exhibitions, or sales. Established artists are professionals with formal training and an established presence through museum/gallery exhibitions whose main economic activity is making art.
Media & Size
- Art pieces may not exceed 48 inches in any direction (including frame) and may not exceed 20 pounds
- All works must be ready-to-hang with wire taut at upper fourth of frame
- Works on 1/2" canvases should be framed; works on 1" to 2" canvases must have neatly painted edges if not framed
Submission Requirements
Submit images of up to 3 completed original artworks. Include closely cropped photos clearly representing the art; for 3D work, submit photos of all sides. Include year of completion, size, media type, art statement, and 50-80-word summary describing inspiration and meaning. All works must be original creations; artwork generated wholly or partially by artificial intelligence will not be accepted. Works must not have been previously submitted in 2025, 2024, or 2023 Los Vivos y Los Muertos exhibitions. Due to the family-friendly nature of the exhibition, art including nudity or highly controversial images will not be selected; all pieces must be PG-rated.
Fees
- Entry fee: $15 per entry, up to 3 submissions ($45 total)
- Fee is non-refundable
Awards
- Best in Show prize: $1,000 (awarded to a single piece)
- Ribbons awarded to winners in each media category for emerging artists and established artists
Delivery & Pickup
Local artists may hand deliver work Monday-Friday, September 21-October 2, 2026, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM. Non-local artists must ship work to arrive by Friday, October 2, 2026. Non-local artists are responsible for all shipping costs and insurance. Each shipped entry must include a pre-paid, insured UPS or FedEx return shipping label. Local artists may pick up work Tuesday-Friday, November 3-6, 2026, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM. Art not picked up by November 9, 2026 without prior approval will be considered a donation.
