STEPS Public Art and Main + Main invite professional Canadian artists and artist teams with connections to Ottawa to submit qualifications for a two-stage public art competition to create a new mural at Maison Riverain, a significant new mixed-use development in the Vanier community.
Project Details
The mural will explore Vanier's ongoing evolution as a community and its important role within Ottawa's contemporary identity, reflecting the neighborhood's rich history, strong sense of community, and evolving narrative. Anticipated dimensions are 20′H x 60′W, though shortlisted artists may propose alternative sizing.
Eligibility
Canadian artists or artist teams with connections to Ottawa. Artists must be from or living in Ottawa, or hold strong connections to the City, and must include a written description of their connections to Ottawa in their application.
Selection Process
This is a two-stage competition. Stage One: Up to 3 artists will be shortlisted based on artistic excellence, relevant experience, and demonstrated ability to create and execute an innovative public artwork. Stage Two: Shortlisted artists will develop detailed final proposals and receive $750 CAD (HST inclusive) each for this stage.
Budget and Compensation
The total project budget is $30,000 CAD (HST inclusive), covering all costs related to the project. Each of up to 3 shortlisted artists will be awarded $750 CAD (HST inclusive) for proposal development.
