Overview

The Greater Columbus Arts Council provides annual funding to cultural festivals that preserve, celebrate, and share the unique practices, traditions, and values of heritage cultures, with a primary focus on presenting the arts (dance, fashion, film, literature, music, theater, and visual arts) to immigrant, refugee, and new American communities.

Award

• $3,500 annual Cultural Festival Funding for eligible festivals
• Festivals seeking more than $3,500 must apply for Project Support through a competitive scoring process
• Organizations cannot receive both Project Support and Cultural Festival Funding in the same calendar year

Eligibility

Festivals must be pre-existing (held at least once before; new festivals are not eligible), take place within Franklin County, and be guided by and serve immigrant, refugee, and new American communities. The festival's primary focus must be on preserving or engaging people in the art and cultural heritage related to immigrant, refugee, and new American communities. Food and beverage-only festivals are not eligible.

Festival Programming

Eligible programming may reflect customs and art forms passed down through generations, include traditional music, dance, food and crafts, honor symbolic and/or ritualistic ceremonies, and observe natural events with cultural significance.

Key Dates

• January 26, 2026: Application opens
• November 13, 2026: Application closes at 5 pm
• Information must be submitted to GCAC 30 days before festival date

How to Apply

Submit an email to Khaila Carr ([email protected]) with festival name, start and end dates, location, website and/or social media, primary leader contact information, description of culture represented, how cultural heritage and arts are showcased, and supporting documentation (brochures, promotional materials, etc.). Applications must be received at least 30 days before the festival start date.

Review Process

GCAC staff will conduct an initial email review to determine if the festival meets requirements. If eligible, applicants will be invited to submit their full application through the application portal. Applicants will be notified by email of award status (approved or rejected).

After Award

Grant agreements will be available in the application portal. Grantees must review and digitally sign the agreement by the specified date. Grantees receive 100% of the grant upon receipt of a signed agreement. Payments are issued via ACH direct deposit and may take up to four weeks to process. All funded organizations and artists must publicly acknowledge the award and recognize public funders.
