Craigardan invites applications from emerging and accomplished artists, scholars, farmers, chefs, activists, and researchers to participate in a focused residency of 2 weeks or longer to create new work, complete projects, conduct research, or find inspiration and creative camaraderie.

Set on 320 acres of forest and working farm bordered by Hurricane Mountain Wilderness, Craigardan's residency program sits at the intersection of place, purpose, and process. The program is designed to allow plenty of time for independent, yet supported work within a specific area of focus, while encouraging cross- and interdisciplinary exploration and creative dialogue. Craigardan welcomes ceramic, literary, visual, and performance artists, as well as farmers, chefs, activists, scholars, and researchers from the Adirondack region and around the world.

We support residencies of 2 weeks or longer for 6-10 artists at a time. All residents are awarded a substantial fellowship, and additional financial aid is available through named fellowships and work exchange opportunities. Teaching Fellowships apply to all disciplines, and all residents are asked to prepare a 10-15 minute presentation as part of the weekly Applebarn Series.

Residents have free and open access to all programs, classes, and lectures. They come together with staff and special guests for a family meal each week prepared by staff and guest chefs with seasonal, organic ingredients from our farm and partner farms. Residents have the option to participate in community events, engage in thoughtful discussions, learn new skills such as cooking, pottery, farming or writing, and enjoy opportunities for hiking, biking, local exploration, and swimming.

Craigardan is located 4 miles from Elizabethtown, 6 miles from Keene and Keene Valley, and 25 minutes from Lake Placid. The campus features two mountain streams, many miles of trails, and close proximity to the Adirondack Park's High Peaks. The setting is wild, raw, quiet, extremely rural, with dark skies and full immersion in nature.

Open to artists and scholars at any stage of career from anywhere in the world. Collaborative applications accepted as teams. Pets are not allowed.

Private housing on campus (individual apartment/cabin/house) with partially accessible facilities. Dedicated studios with ceramics workspace (electric wheels, kick wheels, slab roller, clay mixers, plaster room, electric kiln, gas kiln), painting workspace with easels, woodworking tools, and other specialized equipment. ADA compliant facilities.
