Overview
Kunstwerk Kolderveen is a production and research residency, knowledge hub, exhibition and public events venue located in a former cheese factory in Drenthe, Netherlands. They facilitate connections between artists, curators, organizations, and the public from the Netherlands and beyond.

For whom
Visual artists and curators with critical, contemporary practice. Kolderveen is family-friendly and suitable for artists with young children. We especially welcome proposals focused on nature, rural contexts, or exploring intersections of technology and landscape. We are particularly interested in artistic research, research-led practices, artists and curators open to development and dialogue, and practices that benefit from hands-on, locally engaged settings.
Work period
1 work period available for 3 months: 22 March – 20 June 2027
Funding
- €2,402 per month for artists
- €1,955 per month for curators/art observers
- Studio and accommodation costs paid directly by Mondriaan Fund
- 10% personal contribution required from selected resident
- For collaborative partnerships, total amount increases proportionally
- Higher travel costs for Caribbean-based applicants reviewed per situation
Location
Located in the former cheese factory of Kolderveen, a village of just over two hundred people in rural Drenthe. Offers peace and focus in nature-rich area near De Weerribben-Wieden National Park and Holtingerveld forest. Note: facilities are not wheelchair accessible.

Selection process
Selection is made by an advisory committee who propose candidates to Kunstwerk Kolderveen. Kolderveen makes the final decision on participants. An interview may be part of the selection process. Processing time may exceed three months. When applying for two different residencies within the same call, quality assessment of your practice is valid for both applications.
