About
Overview
Collective Attempt is a week-long workshop organized by curator Xavier Acarín at Can Serrat International Residency, an eighteenth-century house in the natural park of Montserrat mountain outside Barcelona. This is the third iteration of Can Serrat's annual PARASITIO project. The workshop brings together selected 2019 residents, Catalonia-based curators and researchers (Caterina Almirall, Ignacio de Antonio, and Jara Rocha), and up to 8 additional participants from any nationality to explore collectivity, cooperation, and community through workshops, readings, walks, and collaborative activities.
Dates
- Application deadline: April 10, 2022
- Arrive: September 4, 2022
- Final presentation event: September 10, 2022
- Departure: September 11, 2022
Eligibility
Open to artists and researchers from any nationality with availability to stay at Can Serrat for one week from September 4-11, 2022. Up to 8 participants will be selected.
Curatorial Focus
Originally conceived as an exploration of artistic collaborations between human and non-human agents, the workshop now focuses on devising practices of collectivity as convivial cohabitation in response to global crises. Participants will explore the intricacies between bodies and technologies, permaculture and cooperation, mutualism and performativity through activities centered on food, soil, rocks, walks, plants, and sounds.
What's Included
The 273€ program fee includes shared lodging or camping, daily food basket of basic dried and fresh goods, access to one prepared communal dinner, use of communal spaces (studios, equipped kitchen, living room, toilets), access to equipment (projectors, printing press, limited wifi), access to open activities of the international residency program, all workshops and activities related to Collective Attempt, participation in the public presentation, and participation in designing an experimental publication.
Outcomes
On the last day of the program (September 10, 2022), participants will collaborate on a public event using the house and surrounding areas for a form of public engagement. Can Serrat will edit a small-format publication using materials from the participating group, to be included in the PARASITIO collection.
