Crossroads: Touring New England

Overview

Crossroads: Touring New England funds tours of regional, national, or international artists presented by New England nonprofit organizations. Tours must include a minimum of three New England organizations in three geographically distinct communities presenting the same artist, with presentations from at least two different New England states.

What will be funded

• Tours by artists/ensembles to multiple presenters
• Grants provide up to 60% of the artist fee, maximum $10,000
• Applications with artist fees $2,000 or under may request the full artist fee
• Artist fees may include creation of new work, travel, housing, and per diem

Who may apply

• 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations, schools, federally recognized Indian tribal governments, or units of state or local government
• Based in New England (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont)
• Must have a Unique Entity ID in SAM.gov
• Must provide documentation of ADA and Section 504 compliance
• Must maintain an updated CreativeGround directory profile

Tour requirements

• Minimum three New England organizations in three geographically distinct communities
• Presentations from at least two different New England states
• All presenters must work with the same artist/ensemble
• Artist does not need to perform same repertoire at each organization, but content and artistic vision must be consistent
• All performances must occur between June 1, 2027 and August 31, 2028; tour dates need not be contiguous
• One applicant must submit an artist work sample on behalf of all tour partners

What will NOT be funded

• Activities exclusively in schools during class time
• Events not open to the public or not advertised accordingly
• Fundraisers
• Events outside the six New England states
• Performances where performers are primarily students
• Self-produced presentations by artists/ensembles
• Producing organizations inviting a guest artist to perform as part of a performance by the producing organization
• Presentations of projects with funding available through the National Dance Project or National Theater Project

Public presentation requirements

• Must present a public presentation of the artist/ensemble that is open to the public and advertised accordingly
• Literary projects must include a public reading by the artist
• Film projects must include a public film screening with the artist/filmmaker

Key dates

• Annual deadline: first business day of March (2025-03-03)
• Performance dates: June 1, 2027 - August 31, 2028

Application details

Each presenter on the tour is responsible for reviewing program goals and criteria, negotiating engagement terms with the artist, and completing a Crossroads grant application. Presenters may submit up to three Crossroads applications per cycle as part of three regional tours. Crossroads tours are assessed on the individual strength of each partner's application and the collective strength of the tour.
