ArkDes, Formas and the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MCF) invite municipalities and regions to apply for funding in a call totalling 40 million SEK. Using architecture and design as tools, the projects will support local transitions towards climate neutrality and increased resilience, while also contributing to socially sustainable and attractive living environments. Society is facing several major challenges, including climate change, residential segregation, social exclusion and unequal public health. At the same time, the global security situation has deteriorated significantly, placing increased demands on preparedness and resilience in Sweden. These challenges point to a need to plan and design cities and communities that are resource-efficient and resilient, while also offering attractive and high-quality living environments for those who live and work in them. Municipalities and regions are key actors in addressing these challenges. Through the call Kommuner utformade för framtiden – klimatneutrala, robusta och socialt hållbara (“Municipalities Designed for the Future – Climate-Neutral, Resilient and Socially Sustainable”), municipalities and regions are given the opportunity to strengthen their capacity to drive work on climate neutrality or increased resilience. The purpose of the call is to strengthen organisational capacity to lead local transitions towards climate-neutral, resilient, attractive and socially sustainable communities. The aim is to support projects that combine research with practical development work and deliver concrete results. The call is aimed at municipalities and regions with projects within two themes: Projects that address and integrate climate neutrality and social sustainability. Projects that address increased resilience and social sustainability, with a particular focus on how spatial design can function as a strategic tool for creating attractive and vibrant living environments. The call includes both preparatory and follow-up projects. Projects previously funded by ArkDes, the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency or Formas (amongst others) may apply for funding to further develop knowledge and results from earlier initiatives. Closed for application. Read more on the Formas website ↗ (in Swedish) ArkDes facilitates knowledge-building activities To create synergies and promote learning and knowledge exchange, funded projects are required to allocate time and budget to participate in joint knowledge-building activities involving the projects and participating actors. These activities are organised by ArkDes and aim to provide structured opportunities for projects to meet, build networks, share experiences and develop together. In this way, research, practice and policy can come together to strengthen individual projects, while also ensuring that methods and results are shared beyond the scope of each project. About the collaboration The call is carried out in collaboration between ArkDes (part of Moderna Museet), Formas ↗ and the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MCF) ↗, and is funded by Formas within the National Research Programme for Sustainable Spatial Planning and Built Environment ↗. Through this collaboration, expertise from research, urban development and cultural institutions is brought together to strengthen knowledge development in sustainable built environments, designed living environments and societal preparedness.
