Her practice, as diverse as it is undisciplined, finds beauty in the everyday and dilutes the borders between life and creation. Across her career, she has naturally travelled between literature, the visual arts, activism and the management of independent spaces, building her own language in which struggles, desires, generations and communities converge. This exhibition offers the most complete survey of her work to date via paintings, drawings, collages, embroidery, sculptures, installations and videos, along with notebooks, poetry books and novels, and personal photographic materials. Following her show at the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires, this retrospective surveys her solo and collective work since 1992, offering, for the first time, a broad panoramic view of a free and daring body of work reflecting the collective urgency of transforming the patriarchal value structures that governed artistic discussions thirty years ago. Laguna embraces times of beauty, pain, oddness and surprise, dismantling the solemnity of contemporary art to reclaim it as a testimony to the daily rites of living. Thus, the show in the Museo sheds light on significant moments in a feminist life and underscores how some of the loudest and most combative genealogies of contemporary feminist activism — today with a large global prominence — arose from daily work, collaboration, friendship, fantasy, play and beauty in the 1990s.
