Curatorial Fellow, Gibson Art Museum

Position Overview

The Curatorial Fellow develops and realizes a suite of exhibitions, public programs, and other curatorial projects at the Gibson Art Museum during a three-year tenure. The role contributes to the Gibson's research-focused artistic program through major exhibition projects and special projects involving the SFU Art Collection, with potential focus on British Columbian art practices and their global resonance.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct curatorial research, studio visits, and artist engagement to develop exhibition concepts
• Collaborate with Exhibitions Manager on budgets and timelines
• Draft and edit exhibition texts, didactics, and support materials
• Facilitate exhibition installation and deinstallation
• Plan and deliver public programs including talks, tours, screenings, and performances
• Develop K-12, kids, teens, and family programs with the Learning team
• Maintain project timelines, budgets, and documentation
• Support grant applications and project fundraising
• Supervise curatorial interns and graduate practicum students as appropriate

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in Art History, Curatorial Studies, or related field and 2 years of related curatorial experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary art and curatorial practice
• Strong experience supporting exhibitions and/or public programs in gallery or museum context
• Exceptional research, writing, and editorial skills for museum or gallery context
• Excellent organizational and project management abilities
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
• Ability to maintain project budgets and timelines
• Ability to participate in exhibition installation, including light physical tasks
• Occasional evening and weekend work required

• Hours: 72 biweekly hours

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $69,102 to $82,420 annually. Temporary APSA employees receive an additional 7% pay in lieu of benefits and 8% vacation pay, employer-paid extended health and dental plans, professional development funds (minimum 1-year contract), and hybrid-work program eligibility for eligible positions.
