Get matched →Issue 3 of Under My Skin Magazine, titled "With Us (ARE YOU?)," explores collective feelings of the gender diverse community. We ask artists to consider what being With Us truly looks like, how it feels when those who claim love act against us, how politics cause isolation, and how we find allies who stand up for us. This issue follows Shadows and Euphoria, which explored different parts of the self.
We're seeking poems, essays, articles, all forms of visual art, etc. We would also love to promote music and film, even if we can't physically put that media into paper. We especially encourage submissions from artists who are multiply marginalised, chronically ill, disabled, trans, intersex, undocumented, incarcerated or formerly incarcerated, low-income, and otherwise systemically excluded. You are welcome to use a pseudonym.
Under My Skin Magazine is a project of the California Aggregation for Gender Diversity, which exists to build community, provide resources, and educate the public on Transgender, Genderqueer, Intersex, and Nonbinary (TGIN+) topics through history and art programming. The "+" recognizes a wide range of Third Gender individuals and plurals. Our small but mighty team imagines a place in which we can proudly celebrate our worldwide community together.
We have an ambitious plan to build or purchase a brick and mortar museum space in the San Francisco Bay Area, with interim programming like workshops, hangouts, and an annual TGIN+ art exhibition. Our goal is for the museum to become a staple in the community it serves for events, film screenings, education, speaking programs, research, art, and meetings. We want the building itself to signify a dramatic shift in the narrative about TGIN+ people and how we exist in society. Recently, our focus has shifted from California-based to nationwide as attacks on our community have escalated. We still have a long-term goal of building the museum, but our immediate efforts are focused on the safety and wellbeing of our community.
