About
Overview
Rose Choreographic School is an experimental research and pedagogy project based at Sadler's Wells East in London. This call invites applications for the School's second two-year Artistic Cohort. Nine selected artists or artistic researchers will pursue individual choreographic research while collaboratively imagining and developing the conditions of a school through regular assemblies, discussion, experimentation, and shared learning. The programme is not designed to produce a finished performance or predetermined artistic outcome.
Eligibility
- Open internationally to applicants aged 18 and over with no maximum age limit
- Applicants do not need to identify as choreographers or artists
- Formal academic or traditional artistic training is not required
- Must be able to participate in regular in-person Cohort Assemblies in London
- Relocation to the UK is not required, but the School cannot provide or support visa applications
- Cannot be simultaneously engaged in full-time education elsewhere
What We Offer
Nine selected cohort members will each receive a £15,000 research budget, distributed through monthly stipend payments and adaptable to their research needs. Participants receive access to studio space at Sadler's Wells East, mentoring, dramaturgical and critical support, and administrative and production assistance. The School will cover travel to London and accommodation for the scheduled Cohort Assemblies.
Programme Structure
The programme includes regular in-person assemblies scheduled for approximately eight days every two months throughout the two-year cycle, alongside online meetings, seminars, workshops, lectures, sharings, and other collective activities. The programme has no fixed syllabus or predetermined curriculum; participants and Faculty collectively shape its activities and learning conditions.
Research Focus
Applicants are encouraged to bring research questions they are already exploring, particularly enquiries that remain open-ended and do not have a preconceived conclusion. Research may involve dance and choreography, but it can also address movement, systems, bodies, text, sound, social relations, or other areas connected to the choreographic.

Additional Information
The programme places substantial emphasis on collective participation. While attendance at Cohort Assemblies is strongly encouraged, the Faculty will work individually with participants where scheduling conflicts or access requirements arise. Applicants are welcome to share research materials through the School's website and social media.
