Overview
Arts/Industry is a celebrated residency program administered by the John Michael Kohler Arts Center and hosted and funded by Kohler Co. The program supports artists in creating new work using the company's industrial materials, equipment, and technical expertise.
Program Details
- Three-month residency (three cohorts per year, four artists at a time)
- Two residents work in the Pottery; two work in the Foundry per cohort
- 24/7 access to studio space within the factory
- No prior experience with clay or metal required, but openness to factory environment and interest in industrial processes essential

Selection
Artists go through a competitive juried application process. Up to twelve artists are selected annually from hundreds of applicants worldwide.
About the Program
Founded in 1974 by visionary arts leader Ruth DeYoung Kohler, Arts/Industry is recognized as one of the most remarkable collaborations between art and industry in the United States. Over 500 artists from 26 countries have participated in the past 50 years.
Exhibition & Community
The Arts/Industry 50th Collective Exhibition is on display through November 2024. Works by resident and alumni artists are displayed in galleries, award-winning washrooms, and throughout Sheboygan County. The Kohler Walking Tour showcases selected pieces from the Kohler Art Collection.
