About
Overview
Luca Florian (b. 1998) is a visual artist based in Bucharest. In his work, aspects of the visible are altered, juxtaposed and made unnatural, depicting rather their inner essence or remnant memories. The dialogue between personal cosmos, art history, literature, video games and dreams creates unheimlich representations, deconstructing and reconstructing reality.
Residency Dates
- 1 September – 15 November 2026
Residency Project
Recontextualizing the long-term ongoing practice of depicting aspects of the psyche in the medium of figurative painting, a series of new works will attempt to absorb the contemporary local Zeitgeist, closely reading the effects of climate change, technology advancement and the proximity of war and fascism on the subconscious. Our relationship to Eastern European folklore and nostalgia, distant memories and the history of art is interpreted not as a return to our roots, but rather as an anxious act of looking back towards relics of the past, centering on our seemingly increasing alienation towards them.
