A Space Gallery
Artists are invited to submit works that originated from a real, unplanned mistake during the making process, which the artist then developed into a finished piece for a curated group exhibition.

Get matched →We are looking for works in which something went wrong during the making, and the artist, instead of starting over, followed the mistake through and arrived at an effect they could not have planned. A Mess Up? is an exhibition of happy accidents. Each work begins with a real, unplanned moment, such as a spill, a slip, a ruined exposure, or a structure that gave way. The artist doubted the piece, but chose to keep going, and the mistake became its strongest part. The accident must be real, not staged, and the finished work must stand on its own. During the run of the show, we will also host an interactive ceremony for visitors, where the audience gets to join in and give every mistake taken seriously the applause it deserves. Things went wrong, you didn’t give up, and it turned out better than expected. We want to see how you turned a mistake into a turning point.
Painting, sculpture, photography, video, installation, sound, performance, digital and new-media work, and other forms are welcome.
When submitting, please explain what you originally intended, what went wrong and how, how you continued working with the mistake, and how the result differs from your plan. Process photos or sketches are welcome.
