These annual cultural exchange stipends support professional artists across all disciplines working in Berlin. Artists select one location—Istanbul, Paris, New York, or Tokyo—for a one-to-three month stay, with a minimum of 50% of time spent at the destination. Partner institutions provide studio/living space and facilitate connections with local art scenes.

  • Professional artists with demonstrated portfolio work
  • Resident in Berlin with primary residence there
  • Not enrolled at a university or employed as a professor
  • Non-EU artists must have work authorization noted on passport
  • Previous recipients may reapply if their stay ended in October 2024 or earlier
  • Istanbul, New York, Tokyo: visual artists
  • Paris: visual artists, composers/musicians, writers, and dancers
  • New York also accepts curators
  • Istanbul: €2,500/month plus rent-free studio apartment
  • New York: €3,000/month, studio access at ISCP, plus €1,000/month housing stipend
  • Tokyo: €3,000/month plus rent-free studio apartment
  • Paris: €2,500/month plus rent-free studio apartment in Cité and program participation

Partner institutions provide studio/living space, organize open studio events and exhibitions, facilitate introductions to local artists, and offer opportunities to present work to international audiences.

  • Submission deadline: Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at 2:00 PM
  • Preliminary jury decision: November/December 2026
  • Preliminary notification: approximately January 2027
  • Final selection by partner institutions: approximately February 2027

Applicants may apply to only one location; multiple applications are not permitted. Detailed guidance is available in the current information sheet.

During the stay, artists must be physically present at the location. Artists must apply through the Berlin cultural administration website.

Eligibility
