Overview
Aviário Studio Printmaking Residency provides technical conditions, time, and space for artists to develop ideas and try new approaches in printmaking. The residency promotes exploration and production in the printmaking field, offering either a moment of transition connected to experimentation and research, or a point of consolidation of a project translated into the production of a new body of work. The duration, focus, and outcome are defined by the participating artist's goals.
Residency Details
- Duration: 2–6 weeks
- Languages: English, French, Portuguese
- Accommodation: Private bedroom in shared housing facility on campus
- Studio access: Monday–Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Spouses/partners allowed for full stay (non-collaborators); pets not allowed
Disciplines & Techniques
Artists can work in book arts, drawing, graphic design, illustration, installation, interdisciplinary arts, mixed media, paper arts, printmaking, and storytelling. Printmaking techniques include relief, intaglio, screen printing, transfer, and monotype.
Equipment & Facilities
- Printmaking workspaces with etching presses, inking tables, drying racks, and screens
- Silkscreen studio with light tables, large exposure unit, and padded screen print tables
- Paper facilities: soaking sinks, paper tearing table, acid room
- Additional workshops: darkroom, soldering, glass, ceramics, woodworking (tablesaw, jointer, wood vises)
- Shared studios with dedicated technicians (part-time)
- Well-ventilated spray room
- Housing: shared kitchen (no meals provided)

- Open to artists aged 21 and over from anywhere in the world
- Any stage of career (emerging, mid-career, established)
- Individual or team applications (each must apply separately)
- Spouses/partners welcome; pets not allowed

- 2 weeks: 600 €
- 3 weeks: 900 €
- 4 weeks: 1,200 €
- 5 weeks: 1,500 €
- 6 weeks: 1,800 €
- Materials and meals not included
- Studio support (training or assistance): 20€ per hour
- No application fee; no artist stipend or travel stipend available

Additional Information
Artists must be able to cover residency fees, travel, materials, and food. A precise quotation will be provided after application review. External funding and grants are encouraged; Aviário Studio does not currently offer grants.
