Overview
The Thousand Islands Arts Center pottery studio offers classes, events, and open studio time for potters of all skill levels. The studio is fully equipped for wheel throwing and handbuilding. Classes are available Monday through Sunday by appointment.
Pottery Classes
- The Clay Experience (2 hours): $65 - Learn wheel throwing basics and create three pots; one kept, additional kept pots $5 each; completed work takes at least two weeks to process.
- Fundamentals of Wheel Throwing (6 hours over 3 days): $125 - Learn the entire process of throwing, trimming, and glazing.
- Wheel Techniques (12 hours): $225 - Explore forms and sharpen wheel-throwing and handbuilding skills for experienced potters.
- Studio Potter (30 hours): $500 - Focus on control, consistency, wheel-thrown forms, handbuilding techniques, and glaze development.
Special Events & Parties
- Clay Experience Pottery Party: $30 per person for 1.5 hours; learn wheel throwing, make a tumbler or bowl, maximum 6 people.
- Hand-Building Party: $30 per person for 1.5 hours; create pieces using slab/coil construction; maximum 15 people; participants must be at least 6 years old without adult supervision.
- Painting Party: $45 per person for 2 hours; paint pre-made pottery or commission a custom piece; up to 15 people; all ages welcome. Contact 3 weeks in advance.
- Private Raku Parties: Available by appointment; choose from bisque-fired pieces, glaze, and fire in outdoor kiln. Call for pricing.
Studio Passes & Materials
- One session: $20
- Six sessions: $60
- Twelve sessions: $90
- Clay (25# bag): $35 (includes glaze cost)
- Firing fees: Bisque (cone 04) and glaze (cone 6) charged at $0.04/cubic inch (Height × Width × Length)

Call the pottery studio at 315-686-4123, x205 to schedule a class or event. Contact Kathy for special events and raku party pricing. Tuition covers instruction, clay, glazes, and firing fees (except additional pots and shipping).
Additional Information
Completed work takes at least two weeks to process before pickup. Out-of-town participants can arrange shipping for a fee.
