The City of Davis invites qualified artists or collaborative teams to create a permanent piece of public art consisting of a ceramic, glass, or tile mosaic design installed on 23 concrete step risers leading down to a redesigned skate park in Community Park. The completed artwork will serve as a visual focal point and colorful backdrop for the skate park. Artists are encouraged to integrate mirror or other reflective/phosphorescent materials for dynamic, interactive effects.

Community Park is located in Central Davis, bordered by Covell Blvd. on the North, F Street on the East, 14th Street on the South, and Davis Senior High School on the West. The 23 step risers range from 12'1" to 20'10" wide, with each riser 5-5.5" tall, totaling approximately 156 square feet.

Open to qualified artists or collaborative teams. Regional eligibility type applies.

Applicants must submit 8-10 images and may submit up to 1 video. Mosaic artwork must consist of ceramic, glass, or tile mosaic design, with options to incorporate mirror or other reflective or phosphorescent materials.

The selected artist/team will design, fabricate, transport, and install the artwork. Work includes collaborating with City Arts & Cultural Affairs staff, Parks staff, and skate park users to create functional, durable, safe, and visually impactful artwork.

A budget of up to $28,000 is available for the commissioned artwork.
