Rita Burster has been nominated for the VBKI-Preis Berliner Galerien in 2026. Founded in 2014, galerie burster has operated a second location in Karlsruhe alongside its Berlin-Kreuzberg gallery since 2018. The gallery’s programme focuses on emerging German and international artists working across painting, installation, photography, performance, and digital media. Do you have a daily ritual that gives you structure or inspiration? Morning workout. What would you do if time, money, and other resources were no object? Nothing different. Has there been a book that fundamentally changed your perspective—and why would you recommend it? None comes to mind at the moment. What do you wish you had known earlier? That I’d find art so fascinating. Where do you recharge your batteries? My family, sport, and the occasional afternoon nap. Is there a work of art you would love to have in your home? One of David Hockney’s swimming pool paintings. I love swimming. Which exhibition venue in Berlin inspires you? Neue Nationalgalerie. What fascinates you about Berlin? I’m a Berliner. What’s one item you couldn’t live without? My bike. What keeps you going? Whatever’s next—or simply life itself. Which personality would you like to have a conversation with—and what would you talk about? I’d have liked to talk more with Peter Weibel about the exhibitions he curated. What do you look forward to when your working day comes to an end? Having dinner with my husband.
