About
Overview
Brooklyn Metal Works Resonance Residency offers three 3-month residencies to jewelry artists at every career level to develop their studio practice or create new work. The program is located in Brooklyn, an important hub of the contemporary jewelry scene.
Residency Sessions 2027
- Session 1: February–April
- Session 2: May–July
- Session 3: September–November
- Start and end dates can be slightly negotiated to align with artist availability.
What Residents Receive
- Semi-private studio space on BKMW educational floor
- Unrestricted stipend: $300/month
- $300 credit for BKMW Tool Shop
- $600 credit for BKMW coursework
- $500 stipend for artist lecture at conclusion of residency
- Paid opportunity to instruct or TA a BKMW workshop
- One professional development opportunity from a professional in the field
- Access to BKMW Library (3000+ titles on technique, art history, artist books, exhibition catalogues)
- Tier 1 membership at Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) for residency duration
- Dual membership at Brooklyn Museum for residency duration
Resident Responsibilities
- Participate in weekly check-ins with BKMW staff
- Attend new resident artist reception with BKMW community
- Complete BKMW membership orientation meeting
- Attend BKMW artist talks, openings, and events as attendee
- Participate in professional review of work created during residency
- Deliver artist lecture at conclusion of residency period
Eligibility
- Self-identify as emerging, mid-career, or established jewelry artist
- Local, national, and international applicants welcome
- English proficiency required
- Project must be non-ferrous jewelry-centered
- Cannot be enrolled in undergraduate or graduate degree program during residency period
- Must have availability during 2027 residency periods with ability to slightly negotiate dates
- Must be comfortable using stairs to access BKMW educational floor
- Extensive experience working independently in a metalsmithing studio required
- Individual artists only; no artist groups or collectives
