Program Status
After careful evaluation of its financial position, the Craft Emergency Relief Fund has suspended all grantmaking programs for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2026.
What We Support
This grant program supports individual craft artists who make original three-dimensional visual art objects by hand, including folk and traditional art forms. Craft object-making must be a primary, meaningful, and/or substantive part of your current practice. Applicants must create the majority of their artworks themselves, though store-bought elements may be incorporated. We do not support art practices that include hate speech or symbols.
Eligible Materials & Forms
We welcome handmade art made from clay, glass, textiles/fiber, wood, metal, concrete, plastic, gourds, shells, bones, leather, and recycled materials. Eligible craft forms include jewelry, vessels, dishes, sculptures, chairs, purses, hats, masks, garments, quilts, baskets, embroidery, musical instruments, beadwork, regalia or ceremonial clothing, printmaking (etching, woodcut), papier-mâché, mask making, knitting/crochet, dolls, bookmaking, blacksmithing, and knife making. Visual craft objects can be functional or nonfunctional.
Public-Facing Practice Requirement
- Participating in or hosting/leading exhibitions, public cultural events, fairs, or craft shows
- Articles, interviews, reviews, or features about you in written, video, or audio journalism
- Craft show or gallery representation on a website, brochure, or catalog
- Participating in an organization, group, shared studio, or residency
- Publications about you
- Recognition, awards, and honors
- Online presence or artistic website
- Being featured on a professional website such as a museum shop
- Social media presence focused on your art work, making, or practice
- E-commerce
- Documentation, brochures, fliers, or posters from artistic and cultural events
Eligible Emergencies & Disasters
- Disaster events: Fires, floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, and other acts of nature
- Emergency events: Theft, accidents
Special Considerations
We recognize that artists may have multiple artistic practices and work with different mediums. For eligibility, craft object-making must be a primary, meaningful, and/or substantive part of your current practice. We welcome self-identification as a craft artist, maker, folk artist, cultural bearer, potter, ceramicist, mixed media artist, or other identity. For shared practices such as collectives or partnerships, submit one application per craft artist and explain your individual role.
