Overview
Can Serrat is an international residency program in El Bruc, Catalonia, Spain, housed in a renovated farmhouse with studios and shared spaces. This open call invites visual and multidisciplinary artists of all backgrounds and nationalities to apply for residencies during summer and autumn 2027. The program supports creative practice through individual and collective meetings and connection with an extensive professional cultural network.
Eligibility
Open to visual and multidisciplinary artists from all backgrounds and nationalities. Applications must be submitted in Catalan, Spanish, or English.
Residency Options & Benefits
- Full Grant (six weeks, August 2, 2027 onward): private room accommodation, €2,000 Artist Fee, 2 prepared community dinners/week, basic food supplies, access to shared spaces
- Full Grant (one month, October 2027): shared room accommodation, 2 prepared community dinners/week, basic food supplies, access to shared spaces
- Partial Grants (minimum one month, 20 available): Option 1 – shared room €1,130/month; Option 2 – private room €1,745/month; Option 3 – studio only €305/month
- All residents receive: unlimited monthly public transport pass, orientation meeting, monthly peer work display, visibility through Can Serrat's communication channels, publication in digital project archive
Additional Awards
- Production Grant (Visual Arts): €3,000 financial support to recognize and advance one artistic process developed during residency (subject to public funding)
- Retorns Grants (Visual Arts and Writing): additional one-month residency at Can Serrat the following year (selected December 2027)

Applications must include a completed application form and a PDF file titled 'lastname_firstname_VA/M_SA2027Call' containing a 3-minute maximum video or series of images showcasing the applicant's practice and work (with embedded link if hosted externally), plus a website link if applicable.

Selection Criteria
Selection is based on artistic judgment through two criteria: 'Taste' (the jury's aesthetic assessment of form, decisions, and construction) and 'Displacement' (the difference a project produces within the artist's practice and in relation to other practices). The jury includes Helle Kaarem, Ely Daou, Sophie Blais, and Sarah Goodchild Robb.
