About
Overview
The Sachs Program for Arts Innovation provides grants to support arts-based projects. All applications are evaluated using weighted and additional criteria to ensure competitive, mission-aligned proposals.
Weighted Criteria (Essential)
- The creative concept is compelling and supported by strong work samples.
- The application is clear and feasible—applicants must clearly explain what they are proposing, how they will implement the project on their proposed timeline, and provide a budget that supports the proposed activities.
- The applicant makes the case for urgency and impact of the funding.
Additional Criteria
- The proposal is aligned with the guidelines for the specified grant category.
- The applicant makes a compelling case for how their project supports Sachs Program mission priorities.
- When a Fiscal Conduit is needed, the applicant has confirmed a department, program, or center to manage the funds if the grant is awarded.
- When an applicant's proposal includes events such as demonstrations, protests, rallies, or guest speakers on campus, the applicant has confirmed they have reviewed and intend to follow the University of Pennsylvania Temporary Standards for Campus Events and Demonstrations and Guidelines on Open Expression.
- When appropriate, the applicant has identified audiences or intended beneficiaries and included a realistic and thoughtful plan for engagement, marketing, and communication.
- If the applicant's budget exceeds their request to the Sachs Program, they must discuss where the additional necessary resources are coming from and which project elements will be specifically supported by a Sachs Program grant.
- The partners listed represent the expertise and experience necessary for the proposed project with clearly defined roles and responsibilities.
- If an applicant's project has been supported by the Sachs Program or another Penn entity previously, they must make a strong case for why this proposal should receive additional support at this time.
Project Partners
Project partners should be confirmed whenever possible, with clear evidence that the applicant has discussed the project with them, or a clear plan for approaching partners on a reasonable timeline. This includes departmental approval and venues, when applicable.
