About
Overview
This is the 4th annual Petoskey Art by the Barn, an outdoor art and craft show on the grounds of the Emmet County Fairgrounds. The event features a maximum of 75 artists with less competition and more opportunities to connect with shoppers. The show accepts handmade items, artist-designed work, craft, gift ideas, and work by inventors and designers.
Event Dates & Location
- Event: September 19–20, 2026
- Hours: 10am–5pm Saturday & Sunday
- Location: Emmet County Fairgrounds, 1129 Charlevoix Ave, Petoskey, Michigan
- Setup: Saturday 6:30am–9am (all vehicles must be off festival footprint by 9am)
Eligibility
Open to emerging artists of all levels. You may apply in up to 2 categories and to one or more of the three annual dates; participating in one does not guarantee acceptance at others.

- Artist – made by my hands
- Artist – production/studio work with no more than 2 assistants
- Artist – studio work with more than 2 assistants
- Craft – made by own hands
- Craft – production/studio work with no more than 2 assistants
- Inventor – created an innovative concept put into production
- Designer – creates all designs and images used in final creation
- Other (describe) – includes fair trade and items not made by your hands
- Sponsor – home service repairs, car dealerships, and large contract retailers (limited to 4–6 spaces, starting $600)
Application & Fees
- Application Jury Fee: $15 if paid before February 1 (Early Bird); $25 after
- Booth Space: $150 if paid by Early Bird date (Early Bird discount: $100–$150 off); $250 if paid after February 1
Booth Requirements
Booth spaces are approximately 10' wide by 10' deep with at least 2 feet between booths. Booth and half and double booths available on limited basis. All artist exhibitor tents must be white (no exceptions). No cheap camping tents; pop-up tents not recommended. If using EZ UP or umbrella tent, a minimum of 40 pounds per leg required (minimum 160 pounds total). Displays must be professional and pleasing to the eye, with no handmade signs. Categories are capped with no more than 25% jewelry.
Display & Setup Rules
Your booth display must reflect the pictures submitted for jury review. Display must be within allocated space and not infringe on neighbors without show director approval. No chairs in walkways or obstructing neighbors or art show flow. Easy load-in and load-out next to booth (weather permitting). Setup email sent about 30 days before event; booth numbers assigned at check-in. Booth checks held Friday morning.
