About the Gallery
Since opening in 2019, the Joan Hisaoka Art Gallery welcomes viewers in moments of vulnerability and strength, offering an emotional and visual respite—a place to pause, reflect, and feel supported.
Theme
We are seeking artwork that speaks to themes of healing, resilience, transformation, and beauty. Submissions may be contemplative or uplifting, abstract or representational. We welcome diverse voices and mediums.
Eligibility
Open to local artists in the DMV area working in original 2D and small to medium 3D formats. Work must be sensitive to a diverse audience that may be experiencing physical or emotional distress. Works previously shown in the gallery are ineligible for resubmission.
Submission Requirements
- 6 to 12 images of available work (JPEG, high resolution)
- Artist statement (max 300 words) and brief description of proposed exhibit
- Brief bio or CV
- Link to view work (Dropbox preferred; Google Drive not accepted)
Framing & Delivery
The gallery utilizes the Arakawa framing system. Accepted 2D works must be framed and ready for hanging with D-rings. Artists are responsible for delivery and pickup of their artwork.
