The 2025 Culture and Community Student Research Residencies provide undergraduate and graduate students with place-based studies embedded in courses taught by faculty at participating institutions. Students engage with community experts and leaders who share first-hand perspectives on Gullah Geechee history, culture, agricultural practices, and maritime traditions.

  • Residency dates: May 14-19, 2025

The residencies connect students to community research partners and experts including Angela Dore (Experiential Learning Specialist), Bernard Bennett (chef and cultural historian), Ben C. Johnson and Charity Coleman (traditional farmers), and Ed and Earnestine Atkins (maritime culture and Gullah Geechee advocacy).
