Overview
Sixi International Artist-in-Residence Project supports young emerging artists through structured residencies in Nanjing, China, facilitating cross-cultural exchange and creative breakthroughs. The program provides living and working space, financial support, local art scene connections, and an exhibition opportunity at Sixi Museum.
Residency Periods
- Spring: March–May 2027
- Autumn: September–November 2027
- Specific dates finalized based on selected artists' preferences
Eligibility
- All disciplines and cultural backgrounds welcome
- Must be at least 18 years old at time of applying
- Fully capable of completing entire residency programme
- No nationality restrictions
- Sufficient Chinese Mandarin or English language skills (speaking and writing)
- Application must address one of the two stated open call themes
- Must demonstrate compelling rationale, concrete residency plan, and capability to execute project
Two Open Call Themes
Flux and Imprints: Contemporary Echoes of Migration History—focused on cross-regional mobility, cultural reconstruction, and memory, including research on family histories of overseas Chinese, colonialism's legacy in Asia, and identity within global geopolitical frameworks. Folds of Text: Cross-Media Intertextuality and Intervention—conceptualizing text as fluid and dynamic, inviting interdisciplinary explorations spanning literature, linguistics, music/sound, and visual arts through deconstruction, rearrangement, or translation of varied medium languages.

Residency Expectations
- Participate in artist talk, workshop, and open studio events
- Produce tangible and presentable outcome by end of residency
- Donate selection of artworks created during residency to Sixi Museum
- Working languages: Chinese Mandarin and English
