Overview
The Omaha Tribe of Nebraska administers a Higher Education Program for eligible Omaha Indian undergraduate students. Eligible students may receive funding for books, tuition, and fees based on demonstrated financial need.
Eligibility
- Enrolled member of the Omaha Tribe or at least one-fourth degree Indian blood descendant of a member of the Omaha Tribe (determination by Tribal enrollment or CDIB)
- At least half-time enrollment (minimum six hours) in a degree or eligible certificate program
- Letter of acceptance or current enrollment required
- Current students must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA and good academic standing
Application Deadlines
- July 31 for students attending 1st semester on the full-year
- November 15 for students beginning 2nd semester
- No funds available for summer school
- Applications received after deadline may be funded if funds remain available
Required Documentation
- Completed CTGP Higher Education Application
- Letter of acceptance from the college/university
- Needs Analysis completed by the college/university financial aid officer
- Official grade transcript from previous semester (continuing students only), showing satisfactory progress
- Copy of the Student Aid Report (FAFSA)
Funding Priorities
- Attending the Nebraska Indian Community College
- On-reservation students
- Off-reservation students
- Priority given to Junior and Senior students with completed file before or on deadline date
Academic Requirements
- Freshmen: Minimum 12 credit hours with 1.8 GPA or better in first semester; 2.0 GPA and 12 credit hours in second semester
- Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors: Minimum 2.0 GPA and 12 credit hours per semester (recommended 15 credit hours)
- Quarter-system students: Funded for 3 quarters only per year but must earn 24 credit hours for 3 quarters
- Official grade transcript required after each term before check is processed for next term
Application Review & Notification
Staff will review applications within 5 business days of receipt. Applicants will receive either a notification of incomplete application with missing documentation or an acknowledgement of completed application status (preferably via email). A notice of award will be sent once awards are made. If funding is exhausted, applicants will be notified.
