Ars Electronica and České Budějovice – European Capital of Culture 2028 invite artists, designers, creatives, and artist collectives to apply for a fully funded ArtXScience residency. The programme is designed for direct collaboration with local scientists to explore how art and science can address urgent environmental challenges.

  • Artwork presented: Ars Biologica Festival, spring 2028

Residency based in České Budějovice, Czech Republic (online and in-person). Final artwork presented at Ars Biologica Festival in Austria.

Artistic proposals for (1) a spatial ArtXScience artwork that goes beyond screen-based explorations, and (2) public engagement formats involving the local community connected to the artwork.

Climate change, sustainable agriculture, geoengineering, permaculture, water resource management, and ecological impacts on local communities.

  • 6,000 EUR artist fee
  • Up to 15,000 EUR production budget
  • Up to 3,000 EUR for transportation, travel, and accommodation (required travels: 2-5 trips to České Budějovice, 2 trips to Ars Electronica; one month accommodation in České Budějovice covered separately)
  • Total: 24,000 EUR
