Overview
Heritage Sustained Support provides general operating funds to King County nonprofit heritage organizations. These unrestricted awards support day-to-day operational needs including staff salaries, utilities, supplies, and heritage programs and activities accessible to King County residents and visitors.
Funding Available
The grant is part of 4Culture's programs funded through Lodging Tax, 1% for Art, and Doors Open funding sources. Additional funding is available for organizations based outside Seattle or serving marginalized communities.

Eligibility
King County nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) status (or fiscally sponsored by 501(c)(3)). Primary purpose must be advancing/preserving heritage, science, technology, arts, zoology, botany, anthropology, or natural history. Must provide programming available to the general public.
Evaluation Criteria
- Resilience: clear plans to remain operational through 2025, organizational adaptability, community responsiveness
- Public benefit: substantial public benefit through programs and activities, including reduced-cost or free access to heritage
- Advancing Equity: focus on preserving histories/heritage of marginalized communities (not required)
- Economic impact: stimulates local economy through wages, goods, services, tourism, and community well-being
- Heritage priorities: articulated diversity, equity, and inclusion goals with feasible action steps for 2025
Geographic and Equity Investments
- Organizations outside Seattle City limits receive additional geographic equity funds
- Organizations in Communities of Opportunity (COO) areas eligible for additional equity investment
- Organizations with annual budgets over $5 million do not qualify for additional geographic/equity funding
- Organizations excelling in advancing equity receive Equity Investment Score
On-Site Reviews
Organizations funded by Sustained Support grants may be evaluated by on-site reviewers who attend events or open hours and provide written comments for future review panels.
