Lane Community College- Science, Math and Engineering Building

Overview

Lane Community College seeks an artist(s) to create original site-specific artwork for the newly renovated Science, Math and Engineering Building (Building 16) at its main campus. The project celebrates Lane's commitment to supporting a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community through education and employment.

Installation Sites

• Ceiling of Central Hallway: Suspended lightweight sculpture in vaulted hallway approximately 120' long with 12' tall x 11' wide hanging space
• Upper East Wall Central Hallway: Mural or applied panels on second story wall in vaulted hallway (primed gypsum wallboard)
• South Entrance: Sculpture at exterior south entry, approximately 8' x 8', centered on existing sidewalk

Design Theme & Goals

The design theme is 'Science and Math on Display.' Artwork should be comprehensive and provide a sense of unity to the building, read well from both distance and up close, and offer discovery and visual conversation. Potential themes to consider: Gateway to Learning/Foundational Knowledge, Innovation and Discovery, Cycles/Patterns and Systems, Empirical Evidence/Data Collection, or Stewardship.

Project Budget & Timeline

• Budget: $85,000 (inclusive of all costs: labor, materials, equipment, insurance, travel, and required documentation)
• Completion Timeline: Fall 2027

Eligibility

Open to established artists working locally and throughout the United States.

• Letter of Interest (maximum 1 page, PDF): address your interest in the project, past experience with large-scale installations, familiarity/interest in educational environments, and availability to meet the schedule

• 10 images (required); up to 3 videos (optional); total 10–13 assets
