Overview
The National Gallery of Iceland launches a residency call through CUSP (Creative Understanding, Saving and Preserving Time-Based Media Art), a transnational cooperation project co-financed by the Creative Europe program of the European Union. The program brings together institutions from Iceland, Norway, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, and Ukraine to address preservation methodologies for technology-dependent artworks.
Who Can Apply
International artists residing outside Iceland in EU-27 member states or eligible associated countries (EFTA/EEA members, candidate countries, or European Neighbourhood Policy countries) who work with emerging technologies or complex media.
Media & Technologies
The call seeks artists working with generative AI, custom sensors, sound, software, blockchain, physical-digital hybrids, and other emerging or complex media technologies.
Residency Details
The residency lasts up to four weeks and will take place in early 2027, with dates to be coordinated with the selected artist. Participants receive accommodation, workspace, travel and subsistence stipend, and an honorarium for participation in the open lab/masterclass.
Program Activities
During the residency, the artist will meet with a specialist in time-based media conservation for an in-depth interview about preservation needs. The artist will also present their practice and working methods in a public masterclass/open laboratory session designed in collaboration with the museum.
