About
Overview
Northern California Arts, Inc. offers a four-level Artist Standing certificate program to recognize excellence within membership: Artist, Signature Artist, Senior Signature Artist, and Master Artist/Painter. Each level requires demonstrated exhibition success and volunteer service commitment.
Level Requirements
- Level 1 – Artist: Attend 4+ NCA meetings; present proof of 5 different works accepted in 5 separate juried shows approved by NCA Board (none prior to membership date). No volunteer hours required.
- Level 2 – Signature Artist: Must first achieve Level 1; 5 different works in 5 separate juried shows (minimum 3 outside Sacramento County); complete 18 hours volunteer service for NCA.
- Level 3 – Senior Signature Artist: Must first achieve Level 2; 5 different works in 5 separate juried shows (minimum 3 outside Sacramento County, with at least 1 national/international competition); complete 24 hours volunteer service for NCA.
- Level 4 – Master Artist/Painter: Must first achieve Level 3; 5 different works in 5 separate shows (minimum 3 outside Sacramento County).
Qualifying Shows
Juried shows must be open to all NCA members and require jury acceptance of submitted works. Membership shows that automatically hang all submitted work do not qualify. The California State Fair, Crocker Kingsley, or NCA Open (Bold Expressions) can substitute for one out-of-area show requirement.
Documentation Required
All applications must include printed proof of exhibition (catalogs preferred; email or written statements from show chairs verifying acceptance are acceptable). Volunteer service must be verified by an NCA Board member or notations in the SFAC Service Log.
Submission Process
Place application and supporting documentation in a manila envelope and submit to the Artist Standing chair at any NCA General Meeting, or leave at the Sacramento Fine Arts Center office. Applications will be reviewed and documentation returned to the applicant.
Service Requirements
Volunteer service for SFAC and NCA is allowed; service to other organizations does not count. Qualifying activities include NCA Board, SFAC docent, show volunteers, or NCA Board-approved projects. Service must be documented with date, total hours, and signature of NCA Board member or SFAC representative.
