The Institute for Ideas and Imagination brings together a cohort of up to 15 Fellows—half Columbia faculty and post-docs, half artists and writers from around the world—to spend a year together in work and conversation in Paris.

  • $75,000 stipend for full academic year (September 2027 through May 2028)

  • Columbia University faculty category: tenured and tenure-track faculty from Columbia, Barnard, and Teacher's College (adjuncts and lecturers eligible only if term extends beyond fellowship year)
  • Columbia University post-doctoral category: candidates with PhD completed at Columbia between September 2024 and December 31, 2026
  • Creative arts category: visual and sound arts, film, composing, writing applicants without Columbia affiliation and not permanently residing in the United States

Only faculty are eligible to apply for a single semester fellowship. Columbia faculty should notify their department chairs or Dean of intention to apply. Groups cannot be accommodated.

Columbia tenured/tenure-track faculty, Barnard or Teacher's College faculty, Columbia post-docs (PhD completed Sept 2024–Dec 31, 2026), or creative arts applicants not affiliated with Columbia and not permanently residing in the United States.
