Get matched →The Fondation Grantham offers an annual grant and a four-week residency to established visual artists. The foundation supports projects that address environmental issues through their subject, materials, or approach. Artists are encouraged to propose projects inspired by the Foundation's location. The residency includes a research-creation stay, followed by a public sharing of ongoing work. In some cases, collaboration may continue for a second phase, potentially including an individual exhibition, performances, an artist's book, workshops, a publication, or a conference.
The program is open to visual artists residing in Quebec, Canada, or internationally, with a minimum of five years of professional practice. Submitted projects must align with the mission and objectives of the Fondation Grantham. Accepted visual arts practices include photography, installation, sculpture, painting, graphic arts, performance, sound art, digital art, and media art. Duos are eligible, and conditions remain the same. International artists are responsible for handling administrative procedures for entering Canada and staying in Quebec during their residency.
The Foundation's pavilion is located by a small river, in a wooded area on the edge of a forest, in the francophone municipality of Saint-Edmond-de-Grantham, approximately 100 km east of Montreal. It serves as a living, working, and exhibition space, designed to foster dialogue between interior and exterior spaces. The interior is open-plan, equipped with a pull-out bed and retractable kitchen. Residents have access to the wooded area, river, and adjacent forest. On-site work is permitted and encouraged, provided it respects the integrity of the premises. No objects may be permanently installed indoors or outdoors.
The residency consists of a continuous four-week work stay. Exact dates are determined with future residents. Available months for the 2027 residency are January, February, July, and August.

The Foundation's expert committee acts as the selection committee. The laureate will be chosen through a two-step selection process: a pre-selection of two or three candidates, followed by a video conference interview. All candidates receive a response at the end of the selection process.
