Overview
Demos provides project funding for civil society organisations undertaking joint projects and networking activities across the Nordic Region. The programme aims to facilitate networks and meetings between civil society organisations to strengthen Nordic democracy and civil society.
Eligibility
Non-profit civil society organisations including associations, foundations, charities, citizens organisations, interest groups, labour market organisations, religious communities, social enterprises, and NGOs established and registered in the Nordic Region. Organisations must have democratic structures, not pursue profit, and not owe taxes or be in bankruptcy. Individuals cannot apply.
Project Requirements
Projects must involve participation from at least 3 different Nordic countries (Denmark, Faroe Islands, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Åland considered as separate countries). Additional partners outside the Nordic Region may participate.
Eligible Activities
Demos funds projects and networks including joint collaborations, meetings, conferences, workshops, concerts, staff exchanges, courses, training, sharing resources and expertise, opinion-driven initiatives, joint events, facilitation and exchange of ideas and knowledge, and project-related operating costs.
Ineligible Activities
Demos does not fund commercial projects intended to generate financial profit, regular operations (equipment, furniture, salaries not directly linked to the project), or activities commencing earlier than 10 weeks after the application deadline.
Project Duration & Timeline
Projects may commence no earlier than 10 weeks after the application deadline and may run during the application year plus the following two calendar years. The current application period opens 11.08.2026 – 11.09.2026 15:59 (UTC +3).
Funding
Maximum grant of EUR 50,000 per project. A minimum of 15% of the amount applied for must come from another source. Co-financing may include monetary self-funding, partner funding, other financiers, and in-kind funding. Maximum funding from Nordic cooperation sources may not exceed 85% of the project's total budget.
Application Requirements
Applications must include a clear definition of project objectives, confirmed partners, activity plan and schedule, realistic budget using the provided template, and supporting documentation such as partnership agreements or letters of intent. Assessment criteria include administrative requirements, long-term perspective, new collaborations, Nordic added value, contribution to Vision 2030, and sustainability perspectives.
